Our Philosophy

Guidance of Learning

Our school is based upon the fundamental need of each child to have freedom of within limits. We structure our classroom so that children are given ample opportunity to explore their world with their hands in a safe environment so they may learn.

Freedom of Movement

To encourage a broad understanding of the world, we encourage the children to move about freely, choosing their “work” with responsibility and freedom. We nurture their independence and watch their self confidence grow as they learn through thoughtfully planned projects that allow them to learn as individuals, at their own pace and to reach toward their full potential.

Socialization

As children learn, we encourage them to use their growing vocabulary ad express themselves as a individuals. We love chatting with the children in our care, talking about their interests, life values and loved ones.

What is Montessori education?

Montessori education is recognized internationally as a merited educational method.
For more than a century now, the child-focused approach that Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, developed for educating children has been transforming schools around the globe. Two important mental structures of Montessori education are Sensitive Period and Absorbent Mind.

What is Sensitive Period? Why is it so important?

The Sensitive Periods she describes in The Secret of Childhood, “When some of these psychic passions die away, other flames are kindled and so infancy passes from conquest to conquest; in continuous vital vibrancy, which we have called its joy and simplicity.” That is why, at particular epochs of their life, they reveal an intense and extraordinary interest in certain objects and exercises, which one might look for in vain at a large age.” During developmental “primetimes,” neurons can create synapses most easily and efficiently. These periods have traditionally been referred to as “Sensitive Periods.”
These Sensitive Periods correspond with a child’s development of movement, language, sensory perceptions, and sense of order.

What is the Absorbent Mind? Why is it so important?

In Dr. Montessori’s book, she chose to label the child’s mind as the Absorbent Mind.
She described how an infant/child’s mind takes in all the sensorial and emotional data present in the environment without filtering or prioritizing. Maria Montessori: Her Life and Work, E.M. Standing’s book, Montessori as saying, it is logical that if the psychic life is to construct itself, by incarnating the environment, the intelligence must observe and study it first.”
The term “incarnating” might seem strange to use in reference to the development of a young child’s mind, this means the brain is literally creating itself and its knowledge from the absorbed experiences. If this is the time when the brain is most active in creating synaptic connections, then parents and educators must be sensitive to the first three years of a child’s life as the foundation upon which all further learning is built.
